About us
Emco is a family-owned business located in the beautiful countryside just outside Prague in the heart of Europe. Since it was established in 1990, it has been run by family members who bring passion and care into every product they make, always with a focus on natural, healthy food.
Over the years, Emco has grown into a leading name in the Czech food industry, offering a broad portfolio of products that support a healthy and balanced lifestyle. While expanding internationally, the company has remained true to its roots, bringing wholesome, great-tasting food to families in the Czech Republic and around the world.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN...

Emco company was founded by ZdenEk Jahoda in 1990
In the beginning, the company focused on exporting and importing various food products. Over time, Czech consumers developed a strong preference for breakfast cereals, which had previously been almost unknown on the local market.

The first cereals were produced and imported from Germany under German brands
In 1994, the Emco brand appeared on the Czech market for the first time. The name “Emco” is a combination of “Em” – the pronunciation of the letter M, referring to the founder’s son Martin – and “co” for “company.”
Since 1998, Emco has been producing its own products in the Czech Republic
Zdeněk Jahoda started by baking the first muesli in a regular kitchen oven. Today, production is fully professional. The oat flakes come from Czech farmers and are processed in Emco’s own mill in South Bohemia.

Today, Emco is a market leader in the Czech Republic and exports to more than 60 countries worldwide.

We have identified five key areas where we are committed to continually improving the sustainability of our operations.
We know there is always room to grow, but we believe it’s essential to act now and keep moving forward.

Offering healthier products
Delivering tasty and healthy products is part of Emco’s DNA. We have already removed palm oil from our portfolio and introduced vegetable protein products. We were the first to launch sugar-free crunchy muesli and have expanded our no-added-sugar offering across all key categories – muesli, porridge, biscuits, and bars. Emco has received several “Reformulation of the Year” awards for its innovative products.
Switching to fully recyclable packaging
Our products come in a variety of packaging types. Today, 74% of all our products already use fully recyclable packaging – including all muesli, biscuits, bars, oats, and children’s cereals. In addition, all our cartons are made from 90% recycled materials.
Encouraging children to play sports
For over 25 years, we’ve been working to inspire children to move more and enjoy physical activity. That’s why we launched a special program for kindergartens to promote active lifestyles from an early age. We also support a range of sports events and races – made possible thanks to the enthusiastic involvement of our volunteers.
Taking proper care of
the soil where our oats grow
All Emco products are made from oats sourced exclusively from Czech farms. We work to ensure that our oats are grown in line with principles of responsible landscape management – with attention to water retention, soil erosion, and the scale of cultivated land. Together with our largest Czech oats supplier, we have introduced strict standards for protecting the soil where our oats grow.
In addition to oats, we also source our most important raw materials – sugar and rapeseed oil – exclusively from Czech producers.
Producing sustainably
As part of our sustainability efforts, we’ve recently begun focusing more closely on our production processes. One of our first steps has been achieving partial energy self-sufficiency. In 2023, we installed a photovoltaic power plant on the roof of our facility in Hrdly. It now covers approximately 20% of our annual electricity consumption. Our other production plant in Vřesce is already thermally self-sufficient – we use byproducts from production to generate all the heat needed to keep operations running. We’re also working to gradually eliminate energy losses in our production halls to reduce overall consumption. Minimizing food waste is a natural part of our everyday production practices.
Our goal is to increase the share of renewable energy in the Hrdly plant to up to 40% of annual consumption. We’re also committed to improving the environment around our facilities – whether by planting new greenery or improving wastewater quality.
